I have been converting various Xvids with MP3 audio to DVD.
I use VirtualDubMod and load the video the select stream list and select
full processing ..then save as big wav.
The MP3's are normally 48KHz ..so no conversion there required..
So I have run across a problem...when trying to output a big WAV ready for conversion to AC3.

It comes back with error message..."no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the audio format".

I then display the file information using VirtDubMod
and it shows no Compression type for the 0055 tag.
...most of the others show ..that work show Fraunhofer MP3 codec.

So anyone have any idea ..whats is happening here ...???

I have two Xvids which have the same problem..
I have done 20 or 30 other Xvids without problems before...
so maybe the file is corrupt??

Is there a way of fixing the audio part or do I have to load some extra
    software / codecs???

I thought Fraunhofer MP3 was the codec for Xvids / Divxs??

    Any help very welcome...

I should mention I tried on two different machines...eg extracting
    big WAV from Xvid

    TIA..

That looks like your audio is already Ac3, no conversion should be required. Just extract using Streams->stream list->demux

Yeah but when I use Gspot ...the Xvid audio shows up as 48Khz MP3s??

Can MP3 be AC3 or digital as well??

0x0055 is the tag for mp3. AC3 is 0x2000. Sounds like maybe there is a problem with the file or your ACM mp3 decompressor. You could always try converting the avi direct to AC3 with ffmpeg.

  5. Hmmm. Taking a look at an xvid on my HD, you are right, tag 0055 IS MP3, NOT Ac3. All I can think is that there is some corruption in the Mp3 audio stream in that file. You can still extract it using demux, but now you will have an mp3 file, not .wav. But some other program may be able to handle this better once it is seperate. Give Goldwave a try. It can even open .avi file to extract/convert the audio.

I used Goldwave and Cool Edit Pro ..and they both did the job of
giving me big WAV's from the Xvid's MP3s.

Now onto making an AC3 track to go with my MPVs from CCE...

Thanks for the advice and tips...Mucho Gracia!!
