  1. Hi. I've been installing Xvid, and it can play newer Divx very good. However, I got some file that are Divx 3 that Xvid doesn't play. I've been looking for Divx 5.1.2 (the newest one), but all of them required to install the Divx Player which I hate. Is there any other way to get Divx without the player?

    Thanks!

ffdshow, nero digital and 3ivX can also decode DivX3.

XviD's decoder can't because DivX3 is not MPEG4, there is however a patched version of ffmpeg that can convert without re-encoding from DivX3 to ISO mpeg4, which XviD should then decode fine.

Isn't it just a matter of unticking the DivX player option on install ? That's all I do

IMSC when you're installing, you'll get to a point where you get two tickboxes - both of which are ticked by default. Leave the one that says "DivX codec" ticked, and untick the one that says "DivX player".
    If in doubt, Google it.
