I assume your DV camera has a Firewire output? Do you have a Firewire card in your computer?

If you have those and the connecting cable, you can use WinDV or DVIO to transfer the DV to your computer harddrive. From there you encode it with something like TMPGEnc encoder. Using CDs will limit the time of the video considerably. I would definitely get a DVD burner.

You can also use something like TheFilmMachine to convert the DV to CD (SVCD) or DVD format. It's a free program and a good place to start.

Of course, there's a lot more to it, especially editing, and getting the best quality, but you have to start somewhere. There is plenty of info in the 'Guides' to the left. <<<<<<<<

  3. Thanks for the reply. I am able to connect the camcorder via firewire but I need to run to the store. All I got with the camera was a usb cable.
