Forgive the ignorance of this question...
I've been using DVD Shrink to backup some DVDs and it's great. I've noticed it can remove region encoding as well.
There is a movie I really want but it is only available in Australia. If I buy it will removing the region encoding allow me to watch it on my American DVD player?
I would love to know a little more about how this works. How can a NTSC and PAL video be stored on the same media? Does the DVD player convert it to the appropriate video format? Otherwise won't removing region encoding simply allow you to watch a video that doesn't have a compatble frame rate and size for your TV?
Thanks everyone!

Removing region coding won't convert it from PAL to NTSC, nor ar both stored on the same disk.
Easiest solution is to buy a cheap DVD player that converts PAL to NTSC on the fly. Software conversion is possible, but tricky.
There are several guides and many threads discussing this. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those that understand binary... -
Be sure wich PAL format you use in Oz (Pal M, Pal N, Pal B, etc). Sony DVD players do well with pal in general. Con is, they´re not that cheap.

Assuming my DVD player &/or TV can't read the PAL correctly, what is the easiest and most effective way to convert the files to NTSC?
