  1. OK, I have a very simple question. I have bought CCE Basic for use with DVD Rebuilder, so I know it can do some VERY nice encoding. However, my DVD-recorder files begin as VRO and I do not know how to get them from the DVD-RAM discs in an avi format so that CCE Basic could encode them down for me. i do have a couple of TMPG apps that can bring them over to the hard drive as mpg files, but CCE won't take an mpg.

I really would like to solve this without learning complex scripting, etc. In advance, let me just say a huge thank you to whomever can help me.

  2. OK, maybe I wasn't clear. Or maybe you're trying to make the point that I could find my answer in another thread.

I know how to use my TMPG apps to read a DVD-RAM disc and drop the file onto my hard drive as a mpg. However, CCE Basic will not pull up that mpg and encode it to a smaller file. It works with avi files instead, ahnd what I'm hoping to do is learn how to make my mpg files convert to avi without an EXTRA encoding step.

I think it's better to lower the recording bitrate to fit your recording to one DVD.
    Reencoding always degrades the quality.

How do you know these files are avi? I would think if TMPEnc extractes them as mpeg, then they are actually mpeg and don't need to be passed through CCE.

Use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create DVD compliant files to a VIDEO_TS folder of your mpeg files.
Then use DVD Rebuilder together with CCE Basic to fit it on one DVD.
I think you also have to install AVISynth to make it work.

  6. Let's try this again. I know how to use DVD Rebuilder just fine.

What I need help with is taking an mpg that is large to a smaller mpg that has been encoded with CCE Basic 2-pass VBR.

That's all I need. Is there a way to do it?

ulapines told how. Rebuilder requires a valid video_ts folder to work. You might find a way to frameserve to cce, but there is no direct way to do what you want.
