  1. I have some questions that I need help on. I have some avi files, I want to use TMPGE DVD Author to create dvd's out of them. Can someone give me a quick no frills instruction on what I can use to convert these avi files and then burn them using TMPGE dvd Author. Do they make a converting program as well? I have downloaded manuals and still have no idea how to do it. I want to creat menu's for my dvd's. I tried using winavi to convert the avi's to mpeg 2 but when I use dvd author to try to creat a new project it tell's me it's an illegal file. I have my hands in the air about this. All and any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to use TMPGE because when I use winavi to convert the files to dvd I lose volume when I burn them and I have no idea why.

a quick search through the guides section on this site will tell you what you want to know. As far as software, virtualdub for stripping out the audio, tmpegenc for converting the files. If you're picky about the audio, toolame for the audio engine. That's just one way. There are many. TDA lets you make your own menus, BTW.

In order for TDA to accept the files, they will need to be in MPEG-2 DVD compliant form. I use TMPGenc Plus 2.5 to convert AVI to MPEG-2

AVI to DVD conversion using TMPGEnc:

If GSpot tells you you have have VBR MP3 audio, extract audio to a WAV file using virtualdub:
    http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm

... then feed this WAV into ffmpeggui as outlined in step 3 of thr first guide.
    If in doubt, Google it.
