  1. Hi, Until recently my Pioneer 105 worked fine but has now stopped wrting DVD's and gets the following error message when using Record Now Max.
    "Error - 10 at sector 800 - command :2A Sense : 04 ASC : 44 ASCQ: D9"
It won't burn either using DVD decrypter or Nero 6.
I borrowed my friends Pioneer 106 and the exact same error occurred which leads me to believe that the drive is not faulty.
At the moment I have both drives on the secondary IDE channel set as master and slave and they are both running on Ultra DMA mode 2. I am running Windows XP service pack 2 and the drives firmwares are currently 1.33 on the 105 and 1.08 on the 106.
If anyone could help me sort this out I would be grateful.
    Thanks,

I had the same problem until I upgraded to a newer version of Nero 6.6.0.5.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I have the same problem. See my post on the 3rd February.

I had a Pioneer 105 for over two years with no problems, then last august
september it just stopped burning DVDR-RW. CD's are no problem.
I u[pdated the firmware, deleted all burning software and just loaded
Nero and DVD Decryptor. No Luck.

On My Computer, when you place a bland DVDR-RW in the drive
does the device change to CD Drive only, thats what mine does.
It just will not recognise DVDR-RW. Nero tells me I have a DVDR-RW
writer and that the Disk is either a DVDR-RW and that it is empty, but
my computer will not have it.

I think it is a Computer software / drivers problem, or virus, but I have
Norton 2004 anti virus and that is not picking anything up, I have run
Adaware and Spybot and Windows Registry checker.

If the laser died, it would not even see the DVD to give you an error message.

And error message usually means the drive is dirty, or the software/drivers are messed up.

  7. Culprit is probably SP2 for Win XP. SP2 is infamous for trashing and crashing machines it's installed on.

I'm running Win 2K with RecordNow 6.5 and a Pioneer 105. No problems. Burns fine, has burned fine for years.

Solution: either jettison XP for Win 2K, or get rid of SP2. You can't just uninstall SP2, since that procedure also rips out SP1. Either do a fresh reinstall of XP from the original SP1 distro disc or throw out XP entirely.

A sense error is typically an indication of bad media but that's unlikely here. Presumably you've checked the DVD-R media you're trying to burn on another machine/burner to make sure it's good. Assuming it's not Princo or Optodisc, there's no reason for a sense error out of the blue.

  8. I do not think it is SP2 because I removed it and tried, with no difference.
I have tried burning with Pioneer own brand. I use Infiniti CDR and
    Ritek GO4 DVDR-RW.

As I said above I download latest Nero 6 this week. Nero regonnises
my Pioneer 108 and the DVDR-RW disc when loaded. I used Nero Tools
to check my Burner and the disc. No problem. When I go to burn
anything DVD my computer will not recognise the burner with a
DVDR-RW disk in. When I place a CDR-RW in no problem. Cannot be a
lens problem as the drive is brand new, and Nero recognises it. I have also upgraded the firmware from Pioneers website to 1.18
I can only presume its the drivers.

    You're lost me.
Pioneer has not made media in years. Old disc?

RITEKG04 is write once media. Sounds like bad disc.

    Infiniti is off-brand CD-R.

Could be coincidence of 3 bad discs.

Lens may be dirty. "New" has nothing to do with it, and neither the 105 or 106 are "new".

Actually, too many people in this thread. All mushed togther. Nevermind...

  10. The pioneer disk is a ReWritable which i have used before.
The Ritek is DVDR G04, but I have 25 new Ritek DVDRW purchased
last month, My computer does not recognise any of them they are all
    2 x burning, also purched 25 x Ritek 8x same problem.

Do not beleive it is the lens. If you look in the forum there must by 5-6 posts over last few days with the same of similar problems.

On your computer have you got ASPI drivers loaded seperate from any burning software you have loaded. I'm know I had them, but cannot find any record of them on my system. I'm wondering if SP2 may have deleted them, or something. I'm sure you need them.
