what about printable CD-R media? I've spent an enormous amount of time, money and effort learning and experimenting with different printable DVD-R media, and for me, I finally decided on TY discs. They've been working flawlessly for me, while many other brands gave me periodic problems.

This brings me to my question, is CD-R media much to be concerned with? I've always treated this media before as whatever I can get the cheapest I will buy (I know very well that for DVD-R's, that approach doesn't work well). Since purchasing the Epson R200 printer, I've been mostly printing onto DVD's, but now that I'm finally about out of my stack of blank CD-R's, I want the next batch to be printable. Are there any brands I should avoid? Does it matter much what I buy, in terms of the cd working without error or skipping?

  2. I got some TY's a while ago and they look great. Have a sort of pearlesance finish to them.

I appreciate the info, but can someone shed some light on my main question: aren't CD-R's basically all the same for the most part. None that I've ever owned have been finicky, like some of the DVD-R's that I've owned. I just don't want to spend an extra 10 bucks on a good brand like TY if a cheaper but just as good spindle of discs will do. I think Rima.com had a spindle of 100 Prodiscs for $24. They have spindles of TY for $34. If it were DVD-R's, I'd spend the extra, but with CD-R's, is it really necessary?

Also, how do the silver printable discs do? Would you suggest silver or white. Silver sounds a little intriguing, but I'm wondering if images would look as good on the disc as compared to white. Anyone have any experience?

No. I actually just recently picked up some CompUSA printable CD-R's. I made 4 coasters on my Plextor Premium and was all set to return the rest to CompUSA because I tried them on two different burners. Then I tried a third burner and it worked on my Sony DRU700 DVD burner. So yes, CD-R's can be finicky.

I've had my R300 for just over a year; the first cd-r media I used was the Memorex printables. They were about the only thing I could find locally for a long time. The quality seems good but I think they are too expensive. About $15 for 30. I recently bought a 100 pack of silver top Prodiscs printables for about $30. I really like the Prodiscs with one exception: they are not hub-printable. The quality has been good. I really like the way the printed images look on the silver disc, especially after printing several hundred white ones. I've also used some Verbatims, great quality, but again, pretty expensive.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. I think what I will do is go ahead and purchase a 100 pack spindle of printable silver Prodisc CD-R's from rima.com. I believe they're going for about $24 +$5 for shipping.

You may need to play with your printer settings for the silver discs. They seem to take a little more ink than the white ones to get really bright, vibrant images. The images are translucent, allowing the silver of the disc to shine through, creating a really cool effect.
