  1. Hi.

I want to boost my microphone, which is connected to a SB Sound Card. The Boost Option is already on, but the mic vol is still low. The mic doesn't have a knob.

Is there any program to do this? I'd be very very happy. I really don't have money for a new mic

    Thanks.

You haven't defined your mic, but in general no. An external mic preamp would work but you say you have no cash.

Short of spending money, try to find some other piece of equiment you currently have like a cassette player or boombox that has a mic input that might act as a preamp.

  3. That's good advice about trying to use some audio/hi-fi kit as a preamp if you can.

The other thing is that you may be able to record well enough with the mic level down low, and then normalise the recorded audio later in an editor. It's not the best way of doing things, but it can be a work around.

It depends what you're trying to do really.

    cheers,
    theDruid.

I hope you are using a "condenser" microphone instead of "dynamic" mic - dynamic mic does not work well with a computer sound card. Unless you can find a dynamic mic that has an impedance of 1.5 Kohm. Most dynamic mic has not more than 600 ohm.

There are a few things you could do. Record with mic level the highest possible then boost it up using sound editing software afterwards (after it is recorded as wav format). Buy a mixer with mic input - the output of the mixer goes to line in on the sound card. Buy a dvd player with karaoke function. For the best result use a mixer!
