Hi,
I'm trying to make a copy of a DVDR. My first attempt was the easiest way I could think of -- copy VIDEO_TS files from original DVDR to my hard drive and use NERO to burn. I had the following files:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0.VOB
First problem: when I tried to copy "VTS_01_0.BUP" I got the following error: "Cannot copy VTS_01_0: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." The rest of the files seemed to work though. So, I just made of a copy of the VTS_01_0.IFO file and renamed it with a BUP extension. The result was a DVDr with perfect video, but only left channel audio -- not good!
Then, I tried DVD Shrink. When I put the original DVD in the drive and clicked "open disc" I get the following error: "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD navigation structure" -- again, not good! So, DVD Shrink does nothing for me.
So, I tried to rip the files using DVD Decrypter...it's able to rip everything without error; however, when I burn to DVDr I get the same problem as before: the picture is there, but the sound is only left channel.
Any idea why this is happening? Any thoughts on how to make a successful copy? Worst case scenario is that I could convert to AVI and copy the left channel audio to the right channel (since it's the same audio...I think)....but hopefully there's an easier way. Thanks in advance for the help!
Tommy

I remember this from a recent thread - where the "original" was from a standalone DVD recorder (same error from Shrink). Easiest way to backup any DVD 1:1 is to use DVDDecrypter, ISO Read/ISO Write. I don't think that method even looks at the navigation structure.
