I am getting a Pioneer DVD recorder drive for christmas, and I'm not sure what programs are decent for this. I have no idea, really, what program it comes with. I have tried SpruceUp to make a MiniDVD with my regular CDR, but it produced buffer underrun errors, even when writing at 1x. I'm not sure why.

I've used both Prassi and Nero on my Pioneer A03. I've burned video and data disks with Prassi and data disks with Nero. I've never had a single problem with either.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory is really good. I've tried DVDit!, SpruceUp and this and I think think that this one is the best DVD burning software out there!
I only dream in black & white...

I liked DVDit Pro Edition (and burned quite a few DVDs with it), but it uncompressed audio and doubled the size of my mpegs before it burned them to DVD. It was super easy to use, and if it weren't for the size problems I would still be using it today.
Ulead left me angry because I couldn't get past their templates, and it wouldn't let me import thee stuff that I wanted. If you don't want to do a lot of customization it is a good program.
I am still working with Pinnacle, but the learning curve is steeper than the other programs, and it has been shoved to the back seat.
Spruceup has worked awesome. It has a bit of a learning curve for making menus/buttons from scratch but the final product makes the time spent learning well worth it.
I am sold on Spruceup. Hope that helps... -
The winner is: Pinnacle Impression DVD-PRO. It has all the futures you gonna need in a "real DVD production". If you need all those buy it. The prize is right.
DVDit PE has the best looking interface to work with, it works well. DVDit PE 2.5 does't run under NT. It makes a gigant VOB file. Missing all the needed futures for "real DVD production", motion menues, subtitle, multi angel etc.
ReelDVD has more functions, it costs more.
VideoPack 5 - a very good software. Motion manues etc. Doesn't support Pionees A03 as a DVD-burner only as a CD-RW.
Ulead has the easyest authoring solution, and it is the cheapest. You don't have much options to work with but it works well. Support Pioneer A03 as a DVD-burner.
If you have ca.$800 , buy Impression DVD-PRO. I have only Impression DVD-SE but gonna upgrade to DVD-PRO. -
Even converted to US money, that is still far too expensive to pay for ANY program. None. I might pay $50 (ca$100) but no more. I need a cheap proggie. Pinnacle makes a $100 program, but it wants to encode the things too. *sigh* I guess I'll just use SpruceUp. I hope it doesn't make too many coasters. DVDRs are still too expensive to waste on failed writing.
