  1. Just bought a bunch of DVD's and want to back them up to DVD+R. Don't have Dual-deck burner (is that right terminology?). Which do I use (Nero Burning ROM, Nero Express, etc) and how? JUST the movie (no menus, etc). Serious Baby-steps please.

DVDShrink, then you can use Nero to burn. It's easy to use and free.

If the videos aren't encrypted and smaller than 4.38GB, you can just copy them with Nero.

***How do I use DVDShrink AND which Nero application?

If the videos aren't encrypted and smaller than 4.38GB, you can just copy them with Nero.
***How do you know if they're encrypted and again, which Nero?

    Thanks so much!

Almost all commercial DVDs are encrypted. (With the exception of most porn and some older DVDs ) Most commercial DVDs are also larger than 4.38GB.

Easy answer, run them all through Shrink (Or similar). As jimmalenko said, read the Guides. You can save without the extras if you want.

DVDDecrypter or just about any version of Nero that can burn DVDs will work. It's not hard and except for Nero it's all freeware.

Go to All Guides. Set tool to DVDShrink. Press submit button. Choose guide. Follow guide.

Hey .... can we make that a guide for how to use the guides section ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. Thanks. Also, when you copy a DVD can you also give yourself the Extras (ie: audio commentary, special features, etc)?

  10. Which would you say is easier for a REAL dummy DVDDecrypter or DVD Shrink?

I use both in conjunction with one another.
    If in doubt, Google it.

not always, no. If your DVD is greater than 4.38GB then DVDDecrypter won't be able to do it on it's own if you're burning to DVD-5 media. Conversely, there are some discs that DVDShrink cannot rip, and so (on this occasion) it won't be worth a pinch of shit on it's own either.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Dvd decrypter rips and decodes the dvd to your hard drive. It can also be used to burn an iso image.

Dvd shrink can also decode the dvd and will shrink the dvd and create an iso image for authoring.

Click on each link to get a description of each and also click on anyone of the links for guides listed directly below the descriptions.

I personally rip with dvd decrypter, transcode with dvdshrink, and burn the iso with dvd decrypter.

    You are bored, aren't you?

I agree with dvdshrink or you can rip with dvddecrypter and then shrink the filesize with dvdshrink.

  17. One last question please. If I'm reading this guide correctly:
    http://www.thescrapyard.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/files/video/using%20freeware%20utilities%...r%20movies.htm

Do I NOT need Nero to burn onto a DVD+R? Just dvdshrink and dvddecrypter.

    Correct

Dvddecrypter will burn if you do an iso image.

I prefer actually using the files so I burn with Nero

    You do not need one.

The newest dvdshrink has a option box in the settings to burn the output with nero.

DVDShrink to Nero is a tickbox - don't need a guide for that, surely ?

Or if you want to do it "manually":
    http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/NeroExpress.htm
    If in doubt, Google it.

Let me answer that question for you by saying I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A "TICKBOX" IS!

So this eliminates DVDdecrypter AND will give me a quality backup?

Nero Express is for BURNING. You still need to use DVDDecrypter to rip.

    *******

IMO you're making it sound like it's rocket science, and I can assure you that it isn't

I'll make it as simple as I can for you :

    Step 1
    Step 2
    Step 3

Now please grab a DVD and follow these instructions - it is much easier to understand when you're actually doing it !!!
    If in doubt, Google it.

  25. I'm going to do as jimmalenko says and start the process. Does sound like the best way to see if I can do this. Last question, bazooka's visual is TERRIFIC! Do I STILL want this Nero option if I'm using DVDdecoder AND DVDShrink? Doesn't it say somewhere that DVDdecoder will burn onto DVD+R for me? My apologies if that's a REALLY stupid question.

You can use DVDDecrypter OR Nero to burn.

One OR the other for burning ... so if you want to use DVDDecrypter to burn, you don't need Nero. If you want to use Nero for burning, you should JUST USE DVDDECRYPTER FOR RIPPING.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    They are burning tools ...

They have no effect on video quality whatsoever - they just burn, that's it. DVDShrink is the only tool in the process that has any effect on video quality.

    I've held back long enough:

    Please take your dose

    Thank you
