Jim and Bazooka you guys are like a mother bird chewing up the food and feeding it to the Newbie.

I want to add my two cents.

I think MrBass.org's Newbie DVD Backup guide is Great. It has pictures and it has links to all of the Freeware needed.

  3. Fair enough.

This in response to the VERY appropriate STFU page. Don't blame you AT ALL and appreciate your not "sending" me there earlier.

  7. OK, let the abuse continue.

Jim, you were 100% correct and DVD Decrypter was VERY easy. Just completed the transfer to my hard-drive and getting ready to open DVD Shrink. Question, do I close/exit/shut down DVD Decrypter or leave it open? Followed your Step 1 and the end of that and beginning of Step 2 don't make mention. Thanks.

Close DVD DVD Decrypter. DVD Shrink needs all the processing power it can get from your Computer.

Close anything you aren't using. And be warned that when it is running yuor computer will be nearly useless for anything else unless you switch the Setting in DVD Shrink to make in run in low priority mode. Which I don't suggest.

Also are you going to use Deep analysis are just the default settings.

A lot of people use Deep analysis, but I find the imporvement inquality to be slight if any. And it takes like five times longer if you use Deep analysis.

Which can be a pain if you only have one computer. But a lot people like Deep analysis.

BUt back to the question yes close Decrypter.

  10. I can see....I CAN SEE!!!! Jim was right AGAIN!!! Whole process went 99% perfect. Only glitch was that the audio directors commentary didn't play. Any thoughts?

Also (uh oh, am I pushing my luck and moving back toward STFU territory ?), is it possible to somehow use this DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink combo to burn avi files onto DVD+RW's?

Nope. You need to encode the avi file using a program like tmpgenc, cinemacraft encoder, mainconcept encoder, canopus procoder........

Two things.....Did you unselect that box when you used dvdshrink? Did you hit the audio button on the dvd remote?

After you convert and author the files, then yes....you could shrink if needed then burn with decrypter.

All of your questions so far are answered very comprehensively in the FAQ, or in the guides section. All along, we have just been quoting information found in these two sources. Asking questions is fine, but you'll get the information you need a lot quicker if you go for a look in these sections first.
    If in doubt, Google it.

As I mentioned above (after your post ) it does work. Just to be safe though, which box are you referring too? Also, when I tried to play on my portable DVD player (Panasonic L50) got a msg that this type of disc couldn't be played. Yet was able to watch on my PC thru InterVideo WinDVD 6. Anyone know if my player is SERIOUSLY outdated?

OK, and as freebird writes you CAN'T "convert and author" with either of those, right?

To make +R more compatible with older players, you can use bit setting to change the book type for +R to ROM. If your burner supports this function. Have you actually read any of the guides or done a forum search?
