I've read that if you set the setting to dvd-rom when burning dvdrs that they tend to have better results playing. Is this true? Also, how would I chnage my bit setting for a hp300i? Is there a program to do this? would Dvdinfopro do this? I did see something in that program about settings?

If you are using DVD Shrink, the option is located in the Burn options.

However, this option isn't available for all drives. I can use it on my NEC 3500 but not my LiteOn 811S.

  3. There is a utility to do this on hp support website.

There must be an option in Nero, DVD Decrypter, DVDInfo Pro, etc...

Of course you never had a problem, the HP firmware always burn DVD-ROM booktype on DVD+R media by default. That utility is for rewritable discs only
