I've read that if you set the setting to dvd-rom when burning dvdrs that they tend to have better results playing. Is this true? Also, how would I chnage my bit setting for a hp300i? Is there a program to do this? would Dvdinfopro do this? I did see something in that program about settings?

If you are using DVD Shrink, the option is located in the Burn options.
However, this option isn't available for all drives. I can use it on my NEC 3500 but not my LiteOn 811S.Google is your Friend -
There is a utility to do this on hp support website.
There must be an option in Nero, DVD Decrypter, DVDInfo Pro, etc...You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
