  1. I have a DVD coaster factory I'd like to sell. It has a 1.2gig Duron cpu, 2 80 gig WD drives, 390 mb RAM and currently a MicroAdvantage 10XDVD+-R drive. I'm running XP Pro. I can usually rip with Decryptor and get either the files or ISO I want. I try to burn with Decrypt, Nero 6.6, Shrink,DVD2One and usually get 30-75% done and the screen goes black and the 'puter reboots. I've run overnight checks on the RAM, WD's smartdrive says all is well. The power supply has been replaced, Nero and all the DVD software has been removed, rebooted then reloaded. The only progress I'm making is to fill the waste basket with spoiled blanks. This is the 2nd burner as I thought the 1st one (Khypermedia 8X+R) was at fault. So far I've tried RiData and Fuji media. What would you look at next?

  2. HI
Be sure the heatsink and fan on the CPU are clean and functioning. Durons are known for their heat and must be kept cool. Try running with the side cover off.

Also, memory tests are not always conclusive. Run with only one chip at a time and see if the problem goes away....

  3. I think you read my mind. I have verified a clean and working cpu fan and the cpu reports back in the range of 100-104F during a burn. I've ordered a new 512 Mb memory module to replace the others currently in the box. I'll give it a try once that is done.

Try running a virus check, as well as adaware, and microsoft's new spyware remover.

Also, make sure your IDE cables are in ultraATA, and the correct drivers installed.

Also, you might want to load the image in DVD shrink, and see it can successfully scan through the image. Your hard drive could be to blame, especially if you're burning the images from the same drive as your operating system and it's a faulty portion of the drive.
