Hi!
I know alot of people have asked this question here but i couldn't see a real detailed answer - i was just overwhlemed by how no everybody disagrees on this so i decided to ask my own question:
I have alot of footage (professionally edited movies) on miniDV tapes that i want to store on DVD. the thing is i want the highest quality avilable while storing 1-2 hours on DVD. i know it'll be a lower quality than the original i just want it to be the best it possibly can be.
i have tmpgenc, premiere pro and cce sp, i just want to know which one of these would give me the best result for a source of high quality short clips of miniDV to DVD... ??
another question is whcih app has the best capturing quality? does it matter which program ou use or do they all capture in the same quality?
i also need a program that can cut different segments of the tape and capture them - is there any simple program that does this? (i currently use premiere to do it)
Thanks,
Tzvika

Anytime you ask about 'the best' you are going to get opinion.
Here's mine. I like TMPGEnc encoder and Author. I like them because they are easy to use. Quality? Depends more on the settings. I also use CCE on occasion, but for me it's a little more complex and I just don't want to go to the bother. Procoder is also good, but pricey.
DV to computer transfer? AFAIK, they are all the same. You are just doing a data transfer, no capturing involved. I like WinDV because it has a preview screen.
Simple editing? Can't go wrong with Virtualdub. I use VDMod with a Panasonic DV codec and frameserve to TMPGEnc encoder. -
the settings isn't a problem - i simply wanna get the best quality available - once u know what the settings are u just do them again for each encoding... pricey is also not in issue...
no need for editing at all just capturing a PART of the tape and not all of it (for example: from 1:00 to 1:05 and also 1:10 to 1:20 etc.) - any app that can do that easily other than adobe premiere? With all due respect... and there is respect...
