  1. Hi,

I bought some Ritek G04 printables this time last year and burned data on 15 of them no problem in the next few months.

Into the last ten recently and I'm getting data verification errors on each one in Nero.

So, do these things have a 'use by' date or something?

Also is there a verification program to check data written on previous disks that is a lttle faster than a scandisc.

    Thanks

    M

Player is LG GSA 4040B Windows XP

  2. I own the LG 4160B and recently bought some Maxell DVD-R 4X made in Taiwan and turn out to be Ritek G04. LG doesn't burn those discs well (skip and freeze), and this is also the case with Ritek G05(Memorex 8X DVD-R made in Taiwan) even with the latest firmware. I also own a Pioneer 106 and it burns those discs just fine. So, if you own an LG, stay away from those crappy Ritek. Successful burns with media id RICOHJPN-R01-R02 ; MXL RG02 and MAXELL-002-00 so far.

  3. I use G04's with my 4040b, and i really get no problems. About a year ago I got a batch that refused to start burning at 4x (so i toughed it through that spindle at 2x), but every batch since has been fine, the 4040b drive can be very picky, and i find the G04's to be some of the only discs that will successfully burn at 4x (ty's work too, but thats a given).

    no problems on playback either.

are you experiencing problems on playback or during burning? It could be the dvd player, some are better then others at playing burned dvd's.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys... It was just a little odd that 15 burned with no problem at all - this is just data btw and no problems so far with opening any burned files. Yet, the last 10 are all getting errors.

Actually I upgraded my machine in between - Motherboard, CPU and memory (P4 3GHz 1Gb). However, I am still writing to Panasonic DVD-RAM media with no problems at all so I am assuming that the drive is fine.

    Confused...

The 4040b will ONLY burn G05s at 2X, I learnt this the hard way and I've got a spindle of unwanted G05s. I've only burnt a few of them and they burnt without any problem so far. Only data discs so far though, haven't tried any of the G05s on my standalone DVD players.

I've burnt at least 200 G04s on my 4040b at 4X without any major problems, a coaster or bad burn here and there but like 99% were perfect.

MXL RG02 were great with this drive, I just some MXL RG03 and hope they will be as good.

I never had any problem with LG 4040 and Ritek G04.
Since you upgraded your software "in the middle of the batch" there is the root of your troubles.

  8. it is possible his batch was put together from 2 different batches made at different times.

did we ask him how they were stamped. we know ritek does allow their b grade media to be relabelled as other brands.

maybe he purchased some b grade media.

the ones i use are the silver matte that come with ridata label.. the seem to work pretty good.

but i've heard other ones like datasafe maybe? use b grade or less media.. maybe thats why the spindle wasn't consistent the whole way through.

but who knows, might just be a mixed batch or something... not much you can do.

Just most be joking when you say that datasafe produce/produced b grade riteks. Datasafe 4x is in my opinion one of the absolute best ritek discs out there. Have tried lots of different riteks, no one was as great as Datasafe. Have burnt 100s of them no coasters no playback problems........

Just burnt last Friday few G05 white printable ones on one of 4040b at my work, all at 4x, using Nero 5, no problems at all.
Couldnt burn at 4x with DVD Decrypter though, only at 2x.

But I think the problem is with DVD Decrypter itself, because I have 4082b as well, where Nero 5 has no problems to burn them at 8x, while DVD Dec burn them only at 4x. For some reason DVD Dec always burns at lower available speed on all of my LG drives when using DVD-Rs, thus there must be a bug in DVD Dec itself. Nero 5 nor B's Recorder Gold 5, nor TDA have no problems to burn them at 8x, only DVD Dec always goes at 4x, regardless of selected burn speed. It happens with most of the blanks, not only with RiTeks/RiData.

  12. Guys,

    It was a configuration thing.

I left the Cache drive as C when it had about 15 Gb free. Burned some disks no problem.

Then I copied some MP3s to the C drive and just realised I'd left only 200mb free and the disks started failing. Changed the Cache drive and burned 2 disks OK.

How much space should be on a cache drive for burning DVDs?
