Are your IDE channels in device manager set to DMA or PIO? If they are set to PIO change it to DMA or UltrA DMA.

i checked in my device manager. it says transfer mode is Dma if available, but the current transfer mode is stuck on PIO and it won't let me change it
-
you cant click the arrow tab to change anything? try changing it to DMA, select if you can, then reboot, it might not change right away.

i un-installed and then re-installed and it put it to ultra DMA....it fixed it.....thanks
