  1. I'm using the Mainconcept DVD Encoder. I have encoded a number of movies now to the DVD 720 by 480 format for the purpose of creating a DVD to play on a Standalone DVD player. Some of the movies I'm trying to encode are not recognized at all and when I try to open the movie file with the encoder, I get a note saying that there is no video data.

    And one movie I'm trying to encode to DVD which is about 7 minutes long, only recognizes the first 26 seconds of the movie. This movie originally is a VCD at 352 x 240 pixels. Bits per sample is 16 and channels are two. It says frames are 786 and length is 26 seconds. It's 7 minutes long not 26 seconds. I went ahead and encoded it anyway but it only encoded those first 26 seconds. How do I get it to recognize the rest of the movie. Is there some special setting I need to use on some of the movies?

    We need more information before we can help. Download gspot or avicodec and load your problem files in then tell us the results or post a screen shot.

    As far as your vcd file goes if it is mpeg 1 352x240 then it is already dvd compatible. All you need to do is upsample the audio to 48khz then and encode to mp2 or ac3 audio using a program like besweet. Multiplex the audio and video and you have a perfectly compliant dvd video file.

  3. Thank you.

    My stats from Gspot are as follows:

    The movie where only 26 seconds were recognized had the following
    information in Gspot.

    Stat = File is Zip file (ZIP) (Note: it is not a zip file as far as I can tell nor does it have a .zip ending)

    Video Src Type = MPEG1Payload
    Audio SRC = mpeg1AudioPayload
    Video Path (S) Elecard MPEG2 Demultiplexer - MPEG Video Decoder
    Audio Path (S) Elecard MPEG2 Demultiplexer - Moonlight O dio Dekoda

    The 2nd movie that would not be recognized by the mainconcept encoder had the following information with Gspot.

    Stat = File in ASF (WMA/.WMV)
    Type = video/x-ms-asf
    Video Src Type = WMV1
    Audio Src = WMAudioV2

    Video Path = (S) - WMVideo Decoder DMO - (R)
    Audio Path = (S) - WMAudio Decoder DMO - (R)

    The Third Movie that would not be recognized had the following:

    Stat = File in ASF (WMA/.WMV)
    Type = video/x-ms-asf
    Video Src Type = MP43
    Audio Src = WMAudioV2
    Video Path = (S) - MPEG43 Decoder DMO - (R)
    Audio Path = (S) - WMAudio Decoder DMO - (R)

    Regarding not having to convert mpeg files. I thought you have to convert them to 730 by 480 in order to play them on a standalone dvd player. If I didn't increase the size of the film, how would the original movie file unformatted in VCD at 352 x 240 appear on a DVD?

    Up in the upper left hand corner of the screen you will see a section that says "what is dvd". Click on that to learn the specs allowed for compliant dvd. 352x240 is considered low resolution dvd format and is perfectly compliant. Every dvd player will play it back fine...as long as the audio is 48khz.

    As for your problem files the 26 second file is probably a problem with vbr audio. Open the file in virtual dub and click full processing then make sure that compression is set to pcm no compression. Then go to file and click save wav. Use your newly created wave file for the audio in mainconcept.

    I haven't worked with asf files so I can't be of much help there other to say that whenever I come across a file that gives me trouble I frameserve it with virtual dub to my encoder. Look in the guides section for info on how to frameserve.

    Good luck!

    I will try it.

  6. I just want to report back because this might help others. The mainconcept DVD encoder did not recognize the movies I tried to encode because I, knowing so little, had labeled the endings .mpeg instead of .ASF as they really were. When I changed it to .ASF then it was easily recognized. Perhaps, just perhaps, some others might have done the same thing and so their encoder just couldn't deal with it.

    On the other problem, I used that Frameserving technique and that seems to have worked in that Mainconcept now recognizes the whole movie instead of just 26 seconds. I still don't completely know what it does except put it in some other format that is recognizable but it works.

    I'm glad that you got your problems figured out. Also thank you for posting what fixed your problems. That definately helps others when doing a search. So many people never post back after getting their problems fixed and because of that others are denied the solutions.

    Kudos to you!
