I'm very new to this and experiencing a problem. I would like to convert an AVI to (Svcd)?....DVD to play on stand alone DVD player. I've tried to open the AVI file in TEMPGEnc, but get a error message. ' cannot open file, unsupported'.
My questions are:
Am I even using the the right program to convert the AVI?
Is Svcd the format I want to convert the AVI to in order to play in on stand alone?.
Any input would be of great help!............ I have had many successes with mpg's.
Thanks in advance!

If you want the best quality and have a DVD writer I'd never use anything but DVD.
As for the TMPGenc, it's very likely you have a "type 1" AVI file which I think TMPGenc had problems with. it's an easy conversion to "type 2" with DvDate or many other programs. Then TMPG should have no problem with it. If that's NOT the problem, you'll have to tell more about the AVI file to get help on this one.
