  1. Hi there,

Does anyone know why every time I try to open a virtualdub .vdr file with TMPGEnc it freezes at least at the first trial?

Is there any workaround for that?

  2. Yeah, I'm having the same problem... I made sure everything was installed right and I made sure that VFAPI was set as the highest priority, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

Here's what I do... load the VDR file into TMPGEnc and allow it to crash. Wait about 10 seconds, press Ctrl Atl Delete and close TMPGEnc if it says Not Responding. Reopen TMPGEnc and try to reopen that VDR file, and now it'll work fine. I don't understand why it does this... but it works at least.

If someone can recommend how to fix this... or at least confirm that they can open a VDR file without TMPGEnc freezing up.

I thought that I was the only one having this problem. I bypass the problem the same way mikewg does.
    Any suggestions?

  4. I have the same problem, usually works on 2nd or 3rd try.

  5. I frame serve'd a file to TMPGEnc the other day and it worked without problem. Now I'm having the same problem you guys are.

I wonder if this problem crept into TMPGEnc v2.01?

  6. The problem cannot be related to TMPGEnc 2.0, since I'm using TMPGEnc 12i.

Using virtualdub and tmpeg crashed somtimes on my computer. But I have fix, which might work for some of you with huge hdd. I convert video from whatever I have (DV-Video, DVD) to a segmented avi-file, compressed with hufyuv, and do all the filtering / resizing in this part of work, so that the avi has 480*576 (PAL-SVCD) resolution. Then I frameserve this into tmpeg, and no crashes at all anymore. But be aware: This takes about 40-45 GB for 90 Minutes of video.

  8. This may sound crazy but it works for me and I would be curious if it works for others. When you open virtualdub that asks you if you want to run virtualdub or instal handler, don't close that. I keep it open until I have loaded the .vdr in TMPGEnc and this is the only way I can keep it from crashing.

This is my first post, thanks for all the great advice.
