The 106d can Rip , Read , the only thing write related it can do now is drag to disk from Roxio the rest of the programs just hang after writing the table of contenets and when writing dvd movies it hangs for awhile then starts up...i discovered this by falling asleep after i tried to test it again

It's like an OS or software issue if the drive was fine before the switch. I wouldn't complicate matters flashing different firmwares. You could pop it in another computer (friend's?) and if it functions fine then it points to an OS issue.
I would do a format and clean install of XP rather than an upgrade if that was your original route. -
It was fine on my friends comp and it was fine and when bought my new HD's it was a clean install so im pretty sure it isnt os related also the MOBO bios is updated

I had a simerlar problem my Pioneer 104 would read but not write, The problem turned out to be a virus got my burner after my son downloaded some shareware games. I had to reflash it with the same rev firmware before it would burn again.

when you switched from home to pro (why were running home on a dual anyway?) did you re-install the special drivers for tyan ide ? they get written over during the switch
