extracting japanese subtitles

Hi is there a way to extract japanese subtitles? Gocr doesn't recognize japanese characters at all. Maybe there is some kind of japanese module?

Is there any follow-up to this issue? I too am trying to find out if there are any technologies out there that will OCR Japanese subtitles off a VIDEO_TS formatted DVD. My PC equipment is capable of reading region-2 DVDs. I've so far found only software that'll handle arabic characters. The Japanese text on the DVD include Kanji and Hiragana.
