I used to be able to record with Cool Edit Pro 2 with just my voice through a microphone (with the mic plugged into the microphone outlet in the back of my computer) while music played through the speakers.

Now all of a sudden while music is playing, I record that + my voice. Can anyone help me understand how this option happened?

    Thanks.

  2. Check your mixer settings, you may have it set to record "what you hear" or "wave" output. Select Mic as your input to just record the mic.

Are the mixer settings in Cool Edit? If so where would I go for that?

Go to OPTIONS-->Windows Recording Mixer and only select microphone.

Thanks so much! That really worked.
Then now how would I go back to recording the computer music and my voice at the same time? It doesn't seem to allow me to "deselect" the option once I selected it.

Have you tired just clicking back in the "what you hear" box? "Deselecting" sounds like you are trying to hit the same box twice to clear the check mark.

I never found where the "what you hear box" is in cool edit. Where is it?

How did it work, as you said previously, if you never found it?

I never found it, it just all of sudden happened. I used to have it where only my voice recorded despite any music on the computer.
Then just last night I was meant to just record my voice, and when I finished and played back it only recorded the music on the computer. Then I was stuck recording my voice with the music and came to the problems above.

Now that I have selected the box Go to OPTIONS-->Windows Recording Mixer and only select microphone, it has gone back to just recording my voice on the computer and not the computer music. Which was fine, bec. that was what I wanted solved.

However, sorry for being so strange, but I too would like to know how to get it so I could record the music + voice again just so I can switch back and forth now between both since now I know it is possible.

I appreciate everyone's help and hope I solve it, lol
