Did your Asus card come as part of a HP Pavilion desktop? I've been trying to find the spec of the standard card. I've asked BT Home Computing (who supplied the box) but all they knew was that it was an Asus.

From my first quick look at InterVideo Home Theater I support your view, and I'd be keen to find any alternative software.

  3. hello I got my card as a separate card for my home built pc I found a program that works with winamp that allows the turning of tv and radio with the card url is http://www.brics.dk/~barnie/WinampTV/ I using the beta version with card, channels 2, 3, 4, and 5 don't work as far as audio from those channels but everything else does. let me know if you have any luck with this plugin, and if you get the other channels I mentioned to work if you did let me know hth hank

Found out from HP that the the card is an Asus 1734, so I guess that we may be in similar territory. I can't find anything that lists the differences between the two models.

Looking around elsewhere, I came across ChrisTV. Do you (or anyone else know a) anything about this generally and b) will it work with the 1734

    Thanks

I could recommend you both trying to get a WinTV PVR-150 MPEG Hardware Encoder Capture Card instead. Then use the software from www.gbpvr.com instead.

If you really want to have some fun you could also look into the Media MVP 1000 which is made by the same company that puts out the WinTV PVR-150.

But you need a home network to use the MVP since what it does is pipe all you video, music, pictures, web radio to your living room or family room TV.

With the freeware software GB-PVR which turns your PC into a HTPC Server (Home Theater Personal Computer) Watch high quality sharp detail images on your PC or home TV, Live TV pause, ff/rr, record and more.

Otherwise you two can stick to what you have, but the Intervideo Home Theater 2 is the worst program around. You already know why. The Win DVD Recorder Platinum 5 is better, but again it's buggy and the WinDVR 3 is okay but buggy also.

Chris TV isn't that hot and you might want to try, Mainconcepts PVR instead, that's if you want to stick with what you have?

Thanks for that. I am about to buy either a 150 or a 250 (for a different PC) to replace my aging Dazzle DVC2 card. I've seen some reports about audio problems on the 150, and as I seem to be able to get a 250 for pretty much the same price (non-MCE seem either in short supply or are overpriced in the UK at the moment). Any thoughts on pro/cons between the 150/250

Thanks for the tip on GB-PVR, I'll check it out.

Buy the WinTV PVR-150 as you know the WinTV PVR-250 is history. I can't answer for the rest who they say are having problems with the WinTV PVR-150, but the people I help on the GB-PVR who have them don't have the same type of issues that they post here.

As for me I don't have any problems with my WinTV PVR-150, I am thinking about getting another one so I can record more than 1 CATV show at the same time.

WinTV PVR-150 uses a single chip for audio/video
10-bit video processor (found more on DVD players)
    MPEG1/2 hardware encoder, software decoder
    New! 45 button Remote

WinTV PVR-250 uses a two chips (1 audio, 1 video)
16-bit video processor (picture is the same as above)
    MPEG1/2 hardware encoder, software decoder
    Older remote

WinTV PVR-350 same as 250 but also has hardware decoder and S-video output

WinTV PVR-USB2 same as 250, but has FM Radio

MCE version of the PVR-150 has FM Radio, RCA Stereo Audio connections instead of a single 1/8 female connector for audio. No 45 button remote

If you have anymore questions drop me a line at GB-PVR.com I am on the same screen name as here.

    Cheers!
