Having heard about the DVD Decrypter, Shrink, PowerDVD, and VOB blanker etc, do you think how many minimum software/tools on earth are necessary to successfully copy a DVD movie including handling with the potential problems such as the error message, copy dual layer DVD into one single disc, removing copy protection, regional free and so on?

All I can say is this. It's clear you have no experience in backing up a DVD or else you would not post such a general question. "Having Heard". One tool is necessary "DVD Shrink". In rare cases "DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink". So what's your real question? (1400 Burns and No errors)

DVDShrink will do everything but burn, DVDdecrypter can do that though. Don't think you need anything else unless you want to do more than just backing up.

As I have learned recently...to copy a DVD you only need Decrypter and Shrink. I use others but you stated "minimum software"
It was a treat to me to learn that if necessary I could do it with freeware.
Rip (file mode) with Decrypter...Open file with Shrink...reauthor, make selections...Once you select Backup, in preferences drop down tab select ISO and burn with Decrypter...encode.
Once Shrink is through Decrypter is auto opened with the file ready to burn.
I found this guide that explains it all.

Thanks to Videohelp for supplying this helpful tutorial. If any of my other programs crash or whatever this was good for me (still newbie) to learn.
Hope it helps a little.

PS: error correction is always appreciated.
edit: ZippyP, your post hit while I was typing. Thanks for the conformation!

If in doubt, Google it.

Repeat. For the best DVD backup and minimizing the potential problems, you need the basic tools DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink plus the smartripper, VOBBlanker and IFOEdit in handy. If you all agree, that’s it; otherwise, please add more necessary tools.

seeing as this looks like a freeware route what about PGCEdit?
if price isn't an object then I would also have ANYDVD & DVDRemake
@jimmalenko, you say download it when you need it which is a good suggestionbut, :P how many times have you downloaded something for the fun of it and found it's got a useful feature you never even knew existed
@compiler, chill dude, just because jimmalenko never added any tools, it doesn't mean he can't have a say (which had nothing wrong with it) 8)
p.s. the end!
