  1. I'm wondering if folks who are having problems with the new 1109 flash have installed the correct one.

Even though the PDF file says that you can use the flash on either machine, there are seperate flashes for both the 642/17 and 642/37 units...

  2. From what I've read, the 1109 flash for the 642/17 and 642/37 are the exact same software. I have noticed no improvements whatsoever and it seems that the only thing the new firmware 1109 does is adds Macrovision which makes it so you can't copy a DVD to VHS or to a DVD recorder. I wouldn't bother.

I have the 642/37 unit and downloaded the new firmware but with all the comments I will wait til I'm sure it's something I really need before applying it.

Is it true that you can't go back once you apply a patch? No hearsay please. It would be nice to hear from someone who actually tried to go back with details about what you did and the resulting messages.

DVD recorders look for "CGMS" not macrovision, so even with the old 531 flash and macrovision disabled, you still wouldn't be able to record a DVD on a DVD recorder.

  5. I went back to 0531 from 1109 with no problems. The 1109 definitely DOES enable the macrovision when connecting to a VCR. I didn't notice any other changes, really - I've read about some possible differences in playing certan DIVX files, but I didn't see any. 1109 definitely DOES NOT remove that godforsaken angle icon...
