  1. Cheers mate for your reply to my post (dvdshrink problem). I only started backing up my movies a couple of months ago and have so far tried 4 different software packages and dvd shrink/dvd decrypter. The 4 I bought to be honest were junk and I never really new how to work shrink/decrypter properly. Out of all the guides on here about shrink/decrypter yours is top class and I would recommend anyone reading this to use it. I've tried backing up vanilla sky for weeks and have just succesfully done it. the first time I tried burning it it failed at 9%. At the time I was using the internet and I had the burn speed to max. I tried it again dropping the speed to 2.4x and I didn't touch the computer at all. Can you confirm which one of those things would have caused the problem so I know for next time. Also can you confirm the following times are correct.

decrypt dvd took about 50 min and the speed was around 1.6x. I used my dvd rom, but in your guide it says it should work faster.

dvdshrink took about another 50 min.

    burning took around 30 min.

I think the media i'm using at present is ricoh printable discs, are these ok or should I get other ones. I've succesfully copied around 20 discs from 50. However I do not know if it was the discs or the way I was using the software.
I hope eveything goes straight forward from now on, but you might here from me again with another problem.
    Thanks again Gavin.

    Hello,

Deep analysis helps process the video at improved quality levels. Higher quality is the outcome. I've never used it because I'm satisfied with the normal dvd shrink levels.

I would suggest using them if you're compressing a movie at more than 75% compression. That seems to be the agreed value here. Though I'm not positive since I don't worry about the compression levels much.

Just experiment and see what is good for you. And a faster dvd rom drive would push it a little more. Or rip first with dvd decrypter in iso mode and then open the iso in dvdshrink off the harddrive so you're just shrinking in dvdshrink instead of ripping AND shrinking. Again experiment and find the right combo for you

  4. Check out the DVD Shrink help file. It explains Deep Analysis and AEC options pretty well.
