Hello,
I got a problem with playing wmv/avi movie files/clips.As I try to jump to a particular part of the clip with seek bar , the video freezes for a few seconds although the time bar advances as normal playback and then the video starts a bit later.
I have reencoded and the problem gets a bit solved but then the video quality suffers. Please suggest some way out of this problem.

Does this happen with all WMV/AVI files or just particular ones ?
If it is with particular files it could be a key-frame problem.
For the AVI files you could try opening them with VirtualDub with the 'Ask for extended options after this dialogue' option ticked. (It's at the bottom of the Open file pop-up window).
When the 'Import Options' window pops-up select the 'Re-derive keyframe flags' option and then 'OK' (it will take a long time to open the file as it re-constructs the key-flags).
Once the file is opened then set 'Video' -> 'Direct Stream Copy' and then 'File' -> 'Save as AVI'.
This will just copy the original but with the keyflags repaired.
(NOTE: This is also a way to repair incomplete AVI files so they are playable).
For the WMV files you could try the repair options in ASFTOOLS.
