how 2 make Best of mpg vid from DVDs

I have a huge horror collection and just for fun I'd like to make a compilation video (avi or mpg) of my favorite DEATH SCENES.

Any tips on how I would do that?

Is there a good program out there that I can use to capture just like.. 30 seconds of video from a dvd and save it as a mpg?

DVDShrink in reauthor mode and using the start/end feature is probably going to be the quickest and easiest IMO, short of reconverting back to MPEG-2 then using VideoRedo or MPEG-VCR.

hmm i never thought of that.. that's a good idea but doesn't it save it as a "VOB" file, not a mpg?

Yes. You can then import the VOB straight into any decent authoring package, or demux it into elementary streams if required. I just think it's the easiest interface, that's all

Rereading the question (now THERE'S a novel approach ), I think either I misunderstood, or got your question before you edited it.

From what I read now, you just want to keep this on the computer as an AVI or MPEG file ?

I'd suggest you hop to it, and do some reading and searching
