The reason they don't deteriorate is that rather than recording the visual information in analog format, the do it in ones and zeros like a computer. The only degradation that could occur is if the ones and zeros could not be read off the tape.

The best thing to do is to move your video from the tape to a DVD as soon as possible just in case something should happen to the tape.

    ROTFLMAO!!!!
DV VCR's? What the hell is the point? If I want my DV on a TV, I put it through my PC and burn it to DVD or if I am really eager I just hook in the RCA cables and plus my DVC into the battery charger so it feeds off the power source rather than the battery itself as to ensure I don't get the "Battery Low" message when there's 5 minutes left in a wrestling match me and my friends did.

    Cheers

  8. Bollocks...why pay $2k for a 'miniDV VCR' when you could get the worlds cheapest miniDV and run cables to the tele's input?

  11. And I mentioned that me and my friends record stuff other than boring skateboard stunts. Your point is?

Sturdier and faster tape transports. Full size DV tape support on some models. Composite inputs and outputs on some models. TBC on some models. RS-422, LANC, etc on some models.

Probably irrelevant for people on this forum, but there are professionals who use the DV format as well and can benefit from these features. For most people a DV camcorder will be more than sufficient in place of a DV deck.
