  1. Any help would be appreciated. The split functionality in ffmpegX is quite straightforward, but it seems to work for avi files but not mp4. Is there a way to split mp4 with ffmpegX?

If not, how about converting from mp4 to avi. I have tried preset divx(libavc), mpeg4[.AVI] (mencoder), and mpeg4[.AVI](ffmpeg) with no luck. Interestingly enough, when I use the ffmpeg codec it calls grep and seems to scan the whole mp4 file, and then immediately ping after the encoding process starts. All of this withouth creating an output file. Using mencoder seems to actually create an avi file with what appears to be minimal loss of video quality, but no sound.

My input file: VIDEO: mpeg-4, size: 512x224, 29.970 fps. AUDIO: faad, 48000Hz, 128 kbps.

    Output settings: mpeg4[.avi](mencoder) bitrate of 772, 512x224, 29.97 fps Audio: .mp3, 128kbit/s, 48 kHz, stereo, cbr mode

Output file: VIDEO: DivX, size: 512x224, 29.970 fps, 776 kbps. There is no mention of any sort of audio (although I do have "encode audio" checked)

I am using ffmpegX v. 0.0.9e on a G4 Cube running 10.3.3. Clearly I would MUCH prefer a simple method for splitting mp4 files, but if that is not possible then mp4 -> avi looks like the way to go.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Did anyone ever figure out a way to do this on a mac? I have googled and trolled this news group?

My situation is I have processed a lot of tv DVDs and want to split them into Episodes, after the fact. Any suggestions on how to split this file?

  3. Quicktime Pro should allow you to split mp4 files (use "Trim" and then save as self contained).

  4. Thanks major!
