  1. i right clicked on an .AVI film, went in to properties , advanced and the selected compress to save disc space then apply and ok , after that the file name under the icon was blue and i tried to play it but all i got was the sound playing as mp3 so i went to search in the start menu and searched for the .AVI file under files and folders and nothing came up so i clicked on look in hidden files and folder and there was the .AVI file and also 2 internet explorer icons with the file name , i right clicked and selected open containing folder , somehow it had ended up in the local settings folder / history / today / my computer so i opend the file and it played fine with visual and audio , so can any1 tell me whats going on here and can i get it back to normal plz lol

    using ntfs compress is a watse of time really on already compressed files - or files that take many blocks ..

    just uncompress it if you want ..

  4. lol thanks, ok i feel stupid now , maybe u could help me still as i was trying to copy the film to svcd using nero as the file is only 697MB but when i tried to copy it nero was showing the file as being well over 800MB and wouldnt burn it , i tried removing the menu option on nero but still nope, thats why i tried compressing it , any ideas plz ??

    svcd is mpeg2 ...

    avi is not mpeg2

    you have to re-compress it as mpeg2 first ..


    800 meg will fit on a 700meg cd anyway for svcd (really)

    The 700MB quoted for CD is for data, includes error checking files. SVCD doesn't use error checking, so I have gotten 835MB on a 700MB CD. Not sure what the upper limit is, but that has always worked. I did quite a few SVCDs in the past with DVD2SVCD and burned them as image files. Nero doesn't complain about the filesize that way.
