  1. I have about 130 to 140 DVD backups. As I get spare time to watch them I am discovering problems. Some will play, some wont, some have sound issues, video stutter issues along with a few other things. If I put them in another DVD player, sometimes they are fine but bring them to someone else’s house and I get a different issue with them.

Is there any way we can check the integrity of a burnt DVD? You know how we have defrag and scandisk for our computers, is there any software out there that will check a freshly burnt DVD for compatibility and check for errors?

It’s very frustrating to realize after all of the hours, days and weeks spent in front of my computer have led to a hidden mass of DVD issues. I was under the impression that once I backed these DVD’s up I would be able to play them on any decent DVD player.

  3. Unfortunately, one of the biggest PITA of burning DVD+/-R media is final integrity. After each burn, I throw my burned disc into my Sony set-top DVD player and manually skim thru chapters to test for any errors.. (then, of course, there's the issue of various DVD players reacting differently to blank DVD media).

I think there's a tool out there called DVDInfoPro (or something that'll allow you to test the burned disc for stability and/or errors). Do a search on it.. There's probably other ways, but I find the most accurate is to test after the burn and skim/skip thru random parts of the disc (esp. the towards the end where some media have notorious data read problems beyond the 4.0Gb+ area..

edit: kprobe if you have a Liteon drive.

  4. BJ_M that's really awesome. I have a Pioneer 107D burner too.

I am going to put in a DVD that wont play at all to see how it looks when it reads a bum movie then put in a good one.

  5. BJ_M,

wow.. that is good info.. It sounds like they're talking about the compliance of the recorder..?? This app is designed to test burnt media for complance, yes?

Does using this app alleviate the process of actually testing each disc burn manually in a ST player?

Lastly, do you/anyone have any experience with this app.. I'm going to dl and test out tonight.. Thanks again.

you can test either (burner - media)

you will find that just about every burned disk will fail some part of the test

yes -- i have experiance using it ..

    it is also $500 (btw)

D-Probe is also a good app - but no longer sold .. if i could find out who has the rights to it (or not) ... made by the same people who made M-Probe , the defacto standard transport / mpeg stream checker (also was about 10 grand).

Neither product is now sold as far as i can tell ..
