  1. When I use Virtualdub to connect the two avi's I get a hiccup at the join point and the audio no longer plays or delays. If I open the new avi in MPC and advance toward the end of the movie the sound is fine. It only gives me the hiccup if I try to play it through the connection point. Is there a way to fix this or a different process to avoid it? Thanks.

I assume you used the 'Append' option in VD to join.
Check the 'File Information' for both of the AVIs in Virtualdub to make sure they are both the same format, etc.

They may have been recorded with an overlap. You should be able to check the end of the first and the beginning of the second and trim out the problem area if it exists.

If this fails, post a AVIcodec or Gspot screen here of info on the files.

  3. I'm sorry, I assumed too much info. I check the files in Avicodec they are of identical specs. There was no overlay in the video. One stops and the other picks up where the first left off. There is no hiccup on the ends of the avi's, it just occurs when they are merged. Should I just encode each one seperately to DVD and then connect them in my authoring program or is there a another method that may yield better results. thanks for your input.

Why join? If it's to create a seamless DVD, that is done during authoring (TMPGEnc DVD Author). Just encode each part separately. Author as 2 parts of the same title.
(Now I read that you've suggested that yourself!)

  5. Still interested if ther is any alternate suggestions as to another way that may not hiccup at the connection point. In the event that I might not want to author to DVD.

No. Joining video files is IMO obviously very hard to do well (be it AVI or even worse, mpg) judging by how often it goes wrong, and best avoided if possible.

  7. Joining mpegs with VideoRedo is a simple process (no re-encoding is done). I haven't had hickups with it so far.
