robby Nero 6 & Sonic MyDVD are decent all in one DVD Burning Packages, you may also want to try 2 Free Packages, DIKO and the FilmMachine.

    Good Luck!

Can you post a screenshot of the error you're getting ?
Are you putting this "video file" into Nero Burning ROM, or NeroVision Express ?
Can you post a screenshot from GSpot when you put one of your video files into it ?

If you want help (FREE help, I might add), you really need to provide waaaaay more details. We shouldn't have to chase you and nitpick your brain for every little bit of information.

    OK, last chance

go to https://www.videohelp.com/play.htm#identify and follow the instructions there. This will tell you how to identify what type of videos you have. You do this by loading a file into GSpot, and it tells everything you need to know such as the codecs used, bitrates frame sizes, etc etc. Take a screenshot of the GSpot results and post it back here.

Without this, we're gonna be here all night
    If in doubt, Google it.

DirectShow claims to be able to play the file. The following combination of filters were used:

    {E:\Videos\XMEN.avi} (Source)
    {AVI Splitter} (Splitter)

    {Mpeg43 Decoder DMO} (Video Decoder)
    {Video Renderer} (Video Renderer)

    {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder} (Audio Decoder)
    {Default DirectSound Device} (Audio Renderer)

    Right!

Now we've got something to work with!

The reason why you can't see this file in the DVD-Video template without changing the file-type to All Files is because it is an AVI file, and you need to convert to DVD-compliant MPEG2 using an MPEG encoder, and then author this file to form IFO, BUP & VOB files if you wish to use the DVD-video template in Nero.

If everything I just said was a blur, then either you need to do a shitload of reading to learn what all that means, or you should look into some All-in-one converters that will do the job for you, requiring very little knowledge on your part. All you need to do is throw your file at them and they'll do the rest, but be warned that you have limited options and little to no flexibility for any "custom" settings. If you wish to get your hands dirty, try following this guide, or any of the guides shown here.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Try DVDSanta, WinAVI Video Converter, The FilmMachine, or NeroVision Express. I personally despise All-in-one programs and think you should look at doing the whole thing "manually".

BTW, being new and not knowing much gives you the perfect opportunity to read, read, read and learn
    If in doubt, Google it.
