  1. I have a video file that keeps freezeing in the first few seconds except when played using VLC media player. I need to convert the file to vcd though, does anyone have an idea on what to do? According to AVIcodec the file is PAL divx5 and AC-3 sound

Cut the first few seconds out with VirtualDub. Then follow one of these guides.

What mpeg encoder are you using?

Have you demuxed the audio AND video into seperate files with VirtualDubMod?

Run it through DivFix and see if it helps.

  6. Im trying to use tmpg, it encodes until the freeze spot and just holds the frozen frame throughout the video

Dump it. Get a better source. What's your hourly rate? How much time are you willing to invest in trying to fix what's maybe unfixable? Bad AVIs are rarely worth the trouble, IMO.

  8. demuxed?? DivFix didn't fix it. I don't think the problem is a bad frame because 2 other files came with it and they act the same way

  9. i think i may have found a solution, my other pc has a diff codec setup and it plays the video minus sound, so i think it may be possible to get the sound to avi then use the other pc and jam them together while converting to mpeg

  10. I think you need to update your codecs. Try using FFDShow and configure it to be compatible with whatever codec is used in your clip and see if that helps.

    Cheers
