  1. Those of you with cd/dvd printers (epson r200, etc)... Do you mainly buy PRINTABLE media or regular then label them?

reason I ask, I'm new to printables, since I just got my Epson r200 printer. But I keep finding these killer deals on NON-PRINTABLE disc. Like Fujifilm -R 100pk $39.99 (but non-printable). Verbatim +R 100pk NON PRINTABLE $39.99 (both at Best buy BTW).

I've been passing on these deals, since I want printables. What do you do when you find deals on NON-PRINTABLE media? Buy or Pass?

  2. Don't label. It will work fine for a while, then none of your disks will be readable. I burned 75 disks with labels when I discovered it wasn't working right. Saved about 1/3 of them.

Now I use the epson R300. I only use printable disks. I have a bunch of non-printables that I use when I need to create a test disk or if it doesn't need a label.

I only use printables. I still have about 100 Non-printables, that I use for data storage only. PC backups, or MP3's.

I use core labels. They look good, but don't affect playback.

    Hello.

  11. I have an R200, but I am in the same situation as the original poster (too many good deals to pass up on quality media) So, I use printable discs only for clients and the other non printable discs for personal backups and stuff like that.

  12. I buy printables also. I agree that the deals are hard to pass up but I much prefer a label on my DVD backups.

  13. I have some DVD's that I have labelled, nearly a year ago, and they still play fine. I watched one the other night, the entire movie played fine. Label and all.

Seems like all the decent priced printable media gets terrible reviews (ie: prodisc printable, ritek printable, sonic, dupsonic).

Then you hear guys say "USE TAIYO YUDEN's.. oh and btw: they print like crap."

Then the next post is: Maxell's are awesome and usually TY if they say made in japan, and they are $9.99/25pk at office depot. And Fujifilm's are excellent too, usually TY if made in Japan, and they are $39.99/100pk at Best buy! Oh and don't label them, you'll regret it. !!!!!!!!

    Heh...First thing...

My Ty's definately dont print like crap. They have a rough surface, yes, but the printing is fantastic in my experiences with my R200.

About the made in japan statement... well... Made in japan fuji's, yes, are always TY. (To my knowledge), however, the maxell's, you have a good chance of getting MXL or MAXELL branded media.. (I.E. MXL RG02 -R, or MAXELL 002 +R). These discs are on par with quality from TY, some people think a littel better, some think a little worse.

Finally - I personally use a sharpie on the discs that I've picked up that are non-printable, for my personal backups. For discs that I sell (Home footage, weddings, or a very occassional backup if they provide me with the original), I'd never use a label on, only printable discs.

  15. I've never printed or labeled any dvd, so my question is, what's wrong with labels? I'm guessing they peel over time?

Supposedly they cause playback problems, either immediately after labelling or eventually ?? I personally don't know, like I said earlier in the post, I've got several I've got labelled for many months now, maybe even close to 1 year, and they still play fine. On the flip side of that, I've burned media that skips right out of the burner! But thats just crappy media- has nothing to do with the label.

Thank god for my Terapin 2600, that little dvd player plays just about anything.

I really haven't had any playback problems with labeled discs either... and most problems I've had, I'm pretty sure are due to lousy media, since I haven't had any problems with any of the discs I've burned and labeled ever since I started exclusively buying Taiyo Yuden and MAM-A discs. (Not even the ones with 2+ hours of video, burned right out to the edge.)

Fandim, what are your settings to print on TY ? Not the dimensions, but the media type you select with the printer (e.g. cd/dvd premium, glossy paper, etc)
    Thanks
