I gotta question about a ps2 with a mod-chip also. does it play burned ps1 games on it?
-
You can buy a PS2Mod Chip i think at http://www.mod-chip.com or http://www.modchip.com or something like that. With it you can play play the ps1 games on it.Also,a new mod chip just came out, enabling you to play backup games direct, meaning you dont have to swap anything anymore, just insert the backup and play!

I'm thinking of getting this one -
http://www.gamegizmo.com/modcube.html
it says "Easy to install, simply plug the Mod Cube into your USB PORT and connect the 1 wire jumper! WOW!"
What are the wire jumpers they talk about? any soldering or stuff like that? I've got a lot of ps1 games I'd like to backup and then get rid of my playstation console with the 20 games I have to get money for a ps2. I'm going to use 'clony xl'(newest version) to copy my ps1 games but dont know how. anyone know a clonly xl walkthrough web page? thanks.
-
Clony XL is just a copy detector front end for Clone CD, co you'll need a copy of clone cd first. Then run Clony, click Scan CD, then click clonecd, it will start clonecd wth all the right settings, then you just copy.

I think it worked. My dvd player wasn't able to do a cd to cd copy, so I made an image file from the psx game and then burned that. the origional CD and the backup CD both have 533mb of data with the same folders and files.
is there a way to copy a ps2 game? or does that not work because some on dvd discs? -
You might want to wait for the Messiah mod to come out - it allows direct boot of everything, unlike the current Neo4. It should be out within a week or so in UK, within a month in US.

I think ppl just skipped my post.JJamez, you just retyped what I said. The new "messiah" chip (i didnt use names, just the site that sells it) lets you boot backup's direct, forever removing the need to "swap" disc's and crap. Also, dont try that USB thing for the ps2,trust me its no good. You CAN backup PS2 disc's.Ive recently backup GT3 (gran turismo 3) and Devil May Cry to a cd-r.Look for a website by SGT.Dan where a great tutorial for backing up and playing ps2 backup's is located.Okay I think that's it.Oh wait, one more thing.Dont buy any other modchip.Wait for the "messiah" chip, all you do is solder and BAM! no more swapping disc's and junk.Info Here---> http://www.mod-chip.com
Okay.NOW thats it.

I didn't skip your post, you just said some 'new chip' was out, which was a bit vague... and by the way is not sold at the website you mentioned.
The other comment about 'all you do is solder and BAM!' is laughable - please people, do not think its that easy. You really have to have the right tools and considerable soldering knowledge and experience for this mod. Many of the solder points (of which there are 25 or so) are direct to chips on the PS2 board, and are very tiny. Put it this way, if you're unsure of whether you can do it yourself or not, don't do it.
On the other hand, in the near future the Messiah will be produced with a 'carcass', which will basically make it a wireless install, and should make it considerably easier, or at least lessen the margin of error. In those cases, many people who aren't skilled enough for the current install but have some soldering experience MAY be able to handle it (such as myself).
One last thing - I believe the price on the Messiah will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $60-$75, with maybe an additional $50 for install (plus shipping both ways). Not a cheap mod, but ultimately it should be worth it. From what I've read, the beta testing is going on now and it is living up to its billing - booting everything in sight directly - no swapping, Gameshark, or other BS.

Yeah, sorry if I misled you ppl that installation of this new ps2 mod chip is easy.Yes you have to solder some 25 or so points to tiny ass points on the ps2.Yeah you may need to CUT some stuff on the ps2,yeah you will need some expertise on soldering and patience in finding little dots.IF YOU CANT DO THIS,HIRE ME AND ILL DO I FOR $5 .

I think I'll wait until the 'messiah' comes out then. Mainly because I was planning on getting a Ps2 around January when sony is supposed to drop the price. So I'll order a mod chip along with it. What is the deal with the other ps2 mod chips? they require you to put a boot disc in and then your burned game?
