  1. I have some VCD compliant mpegs that I want to edit out the commercials.

Whats the best editor that wont try to re encode the file, since its already vcd compliant and at the settings I like?

Myflix 3.0 made the file non vcd compliant. There is an option to save as vcd but I don't want it to change the file.

Any recomendations and help on what settings don't change the file parameters.

    Thanks

    m1-edit or m2-edit are good

and remember if the output anyway becomes non vcd compliant it is just to multiplex with vcd setttings http://www.vcdhelp.com/faq.htm#repairmpg

  3. When I use tmpenc's mpeg tools to edit and select mpeg-1 vcd as output, does the software change the mpeg?

I am saveing my caputres as vcd compliant mpegs..the settings are just right now. I don't want the editor to force some standard tempate that changes all my work.

If you use the system settings in tmpenc when you output, it won't change the streams from where they are already but if you use VCD, it will change the stream to VCD compliance. If they are already VCD, then it shouldn't matter.

  6. MyFlix won't re-encode if you save as VCD. It simply muxes it as VCD instead of a system stream.

I agree. Use Premiere 6, and export with bbMpeg.

  8. MyFlix works great. All you have to do when saving is type myfile.vcd.mpeg and it will maintain it's compliance (or if it wasn't compliant.....mess it up and make it compliant.

I have been using TMPGEnc to do this. The only problem I have found is that it is not very "exact" and you can end up with some frames you don't want even after editing. I am not sure exactly why this is the case, but I'm suspecting it has to do with something I read somewhere - "key frame." I don't know how to get around this problem - I believe it requires 'unlocking' the keyframe or somethign like that, but I dunno how to do it. I think I read something about this in the virtual dub documentation, maybe.
But as far as editing without re-encoding, TMPGEnc does it just perfectly.

  10. Yes, without re-encoding, you have to cut on an I frame, so you cannot make a cut where ever you want. However, MyFlix can do this and ONLY re-encode the video to the nearest I frame and then leave the rest alone. This is the "slickest" way of getting frame accurate mpeg editing without re-encoding everything. (I haven't personally tried it, but it should work..)

Myflix costs money, though, doesn't it?
