  1. I just picked up a DRC8005N from SAMS. This is my second set-top unit. The first is a JVC that is as reliable as an Yugo car.

The +r and +rw dvd are perfect quality. They play on all my DVD players and my PC's. When I copy the DVD's to my PC using DVD Decryptor (File Format), it works fine. But then when I try and write them back out with Nero, it complains that it Can not Re-Author the disk and that the video may be corrupt if I burn. It seems that the format of the +r and +rw disks burned by the unit are non-standard. They play fine, but don't look correct to the PC editing/burning software. I have done this many times with my JVC and did not have any problems. Anyone seen this type of problem before?

    Thanks.

  2. Some applications, like dvdshrink, don't like file structures from stand alone dvd recorders., so this problem is not surprising.

Try dvdecrypter in iso read/write mode. If that doesn't work, I've been able to copy almost any disc made in a Philips +RW recorder using the copy disc function in DVD Moviefactory 2.

  3. I had bought the RCA unit myself. I liked it until I tried to play the DVD's on some of my other set top players. They wouldn't be read. So the RCA went back to Sams. Good luck with your problem, but I wonder about the RCA unit.
