I've been using Video Studio 8 with the 8.01 patch for quite some time without any issues. Now when I try to run it the splash screen comes up with the lady and the camcorder and then I get an error "Ulead Video Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close" It shows the AppName of VStudio.exe and asks me if I want to send an error report. I have reinstalled it several times but I get the same results. The ironic thing is that version 7 still runs fine and so does Movie Factory. The only recent addition to my PC was DVD-Shrink which I removed before re-installing Video Studio. ANy help would be greatly appreciated as Ulead's Tech Suport is pathetic

Load Filemon, from Http://www.sysinternals.com and you'll be able to see which dll is causing the crash.

And have you tried to re-install VS8?

And State of Mind, I respectfully disagree. VS is an alright one-stop application.
    Hello.

Try this - Looks like Dr Watson gets invoked when the app crashes. Turn off "Error Reporting Service" from ControlPanel ---> Administrative Tools --->Services.

BTW, do you have XP SP2 installed ?

Last ditch effort - Download v 3.0 of the following (read the documentation before installing)

Got it fixed last night. I renamed the uvs.ini just for the heck of it and after that VS loaded fine. I had un-installed and re-installed several times but apparently the package doesn't completely remove itself. What I found was a uvs.ini under Documents and Settings\All Users\Ulead Systems\Ulead VidioStudio 8.0. I had previously deleted that file but it was located under my id, I never thought to look for it elsewhere. Now I'm going to compare the new ini with the old to see if I can determine what caused the problem. It would be nice if software companies would remove there stuff completely when you do an un-install
