TDK DVDR 8X or Sony 4X?

I'm looking at the latest Best Buy ad, and they have TDK 8X 25 packs for $10 in + or -. They also have Sony 4X 50 packs of + or - for $20.
Anyone know what the media codes for any of these are?
I am using an NEC 2510a with 2.F8 firmware.

Most likely the Sony -R packs instore will be 8x, not 4, id SONY08D1. The +R are probably 4x though, RICOHJPNR01. As for TDK, the 8x -R are TTG02, while the +R are either RICOHJPNR02 or a CMC media code.

Both Sony and TDK are associated with great media - just get the 8x of whichever one you want.

Having picked up 2 spindles I can say... side has 50DPR47LS2, upc 2724264301, made in Taiwan. Around the hub area it says "DVD+R Ver 1.1/1x-4x... Sony Corporation" in blue.

As my trusty old Sony DRU500a (4x max +R/-R) w/firmware 2.1a doesn't give consistant burns when using "Up to 8x" Fuji Film +R [media code: YUDEN000T02], using it I have burned my first and only 5 coasters. Back to the Ricohjpn and I'm fine, SO I am very hesitent to buy anything rated higher than 4x as such can't comment on the TDK 8X media codes.

Only the 8x Sony DVD+R in the 50 disc spindles are TY and made in Japan (25 and lower packs are SONYD11 made in Taiwan). I personally haven't seen any of these in local Best Buys, but I don't deny other might stock them.

Picked up 50 pack Sony DVD-R 8X at Best Buy which was made in japan. Media code SONY08D1. Great price.

SONY08D1 burns far better than TYG02 or MXLRG03 on my PX-712A.

I did not see any Sony's at my Best Buy, must have been out (saw them at Sam's, made in Japan, just a little out of my price range though). So I got the TDK +R 25pk for $9.99. Unfortunately for me I got the CMC MAG.E01 media code. Fortunately for me I book typed them to DVD-ROM with my new Pio f/w and they came out most excellent. I almost took them back until I stuck one in my 6 yr old Toshiba SD3109, which has never been able to play a CD-R or DVD-/+R, and it played back flawlessly. Bitsetting is fun

Unfortunately for me I got the CMC MAG.E01 media code.

TDK is always suspect. I also bought a cake 3-4 months back and they were CMC... many errors...

Without knowing MFG ID I would buy Sony over TDK any day.

My 2x TDKs are great! Unfortunately, support is dropping for 2x writes. My new burner does not support 2x, so I have to finish those TDKs in the old burner. I don't have any 8x Sonys, but the 4x has been great. When they just work, I don't even bother looking at media codes.
