It's A Hobby, and every now and then a Side Business, and even more rarely I use it at work.

I'm a hobbiest. I don't put a big budget into it but I get just enough equipment to do a decent job of it.
Plus with the help of this website and some personal trial and error I do it well.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
For me, it's a combination of "it's all for fun" and "I'm just curious and want to know more." When I started doing this years ago, my original purpose was to (as much as possible) abandon VHS as a "permanent" means of storing the programs I archive - mainly, educational or historical stuff gleened from the History Channel, Discovery Channel, CSPAN, etc. This was during my VCD period. When I upgraded my system to burn DVDs, I then started backing up my movies on VHS tape ... and later, my DVDs purchased.
I'm pretty much done backing up my old VHS tapes. Now, I only do backups of movies I buy on DVD (usually older/rare movies) and still continue to backup the educational and historical stuff I've always archived. The last stuff I burned to DVDs were programs broadcast on the History Channel (Shatner's brief series of specials). And currently, I'm saving CSPAN snippets on discussions revolving around the immigration debate in the Senate. Eventually, those will all find their way to a DVD. -
It's just a hobby and I only do it for fun. I've turned down lot's of money offers because then it would become like work and therefore no fun.

A hobby turned into a f*^ing crack addiction....
Filming wedding videos to help pay for the equipment...Only 10 years left -
Itīs my CHAMBA (work/job/travaille/lavoro), but happens to be so damned fun, it could be called a hobby (also maybe because itīs far from making me rich...)

I voted that it's a hobby, but it's more than that, really. I am in charge of the video ministry at my church and am learning as much as possible in order to achieve a few goals. One is to integrate video into our services. We have already used video pretty successfully in a couple of our drama productions, but are working on using it to enhance Sunday services without distracting from them.
I am also just beginning to explore video podcasting to help deliver the Good News to a worldwide audience. -
Strictly a hobby.
