My computer is LYING to me! (aoubt the length of this video)

So I've got these episodes encoded. They're each about 22 minutes. But, when I play them in media players (they've m2v files), it says they're varying lengths. Anywhere from 58 minutes to 1 hour and 3 minutes. It plays through the video, and it is just black after 22 minutes (which is where the episode should stop). Anybody know what the hell is going on? I encoded them using TMPGEnc Plus. I'm trying to make a DVD with Encore, but Encore has no clipping features like Premiere. Is there any program out there that can I can clip out this extra blank video and not have to reencode the whole freaking thing (maybe like VirtualDub's Direct Stream Copy feature)?

I'd say your original videos had either AC3 or VBR MP3 audio - this has been known to cause this error with TMPGEnc. Can you go to https://www.videohelp.com/play.htm#identify and then post a screenshot on your source videos from GSpot or AVICodec ?

Yeah. I know it has VBR audio for sure. So is there anything I can do about this?

Extract the audio from the source files, then convert just the video using TMPGEnc (this guide might help). Then join the two together in your authoring software.

You could play around with demuxing into elementary streams then adjusting the lengths of both video and audio individually, or even just some MPEG-editing software such as MPEG-VCR, but IMO it's probably gonna be more hassle than just taking your medicine and re-encoding them the correct way from the start. At least that way you'll know they'll come out good

I would demux both streams and reset the timecode using Restream. Then run the audio and the video together using MPEG2Schnitt and clip them accordingly using IN/OUT features just like Virtualdub.

There is no audio. They are m2v files. I only encoded ES Video with TMPGEnc Plus. I want to cut the black out, I'm asking how.

Okay, so here's the update for anybody who's keeping score at home. As some of you can probably see, I actually have two threads going with two different problems. As it most often turns out in these cases, these two problems are related. So I'll just post in this topic and let this one speek for both. I gave these programs you suggested a shot, and at first glance it seemed that I was going to have to just reencode them all as jimmalenko said. After poking about and messing with a few things (and understanding Restream), things started to go my way. Two of the files down, and so far things are looking good. The reason the filesizes were off (as stated in the original thread) was because of the extra 40 minutes of blank video at the end of every file. So things are looking good.

Thanks to jim for his guide. It was a whole lot of help (even though it's only viewable in IE). And everyone for their suggestions on whether to go up to 720 or down to 352 (right now everything is in 720, we'll see how it turns out). Thanks to freestyler for his links to Restream and MPEG2Schnitt.
