could it be my burner ??? help !!

im getting frustrated here. i have been burning backups of my dvd's for some time now. all the sudden, every dvd i burn seems to skip and freeze. even when using nero, dvdshrink, roxio etc..... basically ive tried several different burning software programs, and no matter what i do, they skip.

the funny thing is, they play fine in my computer, but when i play them in any stand alone, they skip.

what do you think ?

ive been using 2 different brands and having the problem with both. ritech and memorex.

ive even updated the firmware on my burner. it gets frustrating. in fact, the funny thing is, ill burn a dvd, pop it in the player and its fine. put it back in the next day and it plays find 3/4 of the way thru then all the sudden it starts to skip and freeze again.

it really makes me mad because ive spent hours making videos with my minidv of my children, convert them to dvd and then this happens.

it even happens when simply burning a backup copy.

Neither brand you list is top shelf. I would try and eliminate the media as the source of the problem, Taiyo Yuden is regarded as the best FWIW.

The few times I have run into the same problem it has always been the media. Since media is cheap these days now I only buy the best like TDK, TY and recently Sony. Also in DVDshrink's options I limit the DVD files size to 100MB less than the DVDR can hold as sometimes even good media will skip near the edge of the disc.
