Hello
Would someone be able to give me some advice re codec compression and my AlchemyDVR card on my Mac?
Ive had the card for several months and think it is a very fine product. My computer is a G4 dual 1 GHZ with 780 RAM. 4 X 250GB HD’s
Using a cable TV connection I find that I get :
MPEG4 1:2 340 x 240 at codecs quality 75% = 2 gb /30 min with good Audio/Video synch.
Sorensen3 1:2 340 x 240 at codec quality 75% = 1.7 GB/30 min good enough A/V synch.
I open this QT file in QT pro and do a little editing, and export it as a QT MPEG4 same 340 x 240 30f/sec with video at 1040 kbits/sec and this file is about 250 MB and good enough for my purposes. This file type for now is my final goal.
Is there a way to get this same final file from the AlchemyDVR? It takes my computer about 15 to 20 min to do this final export and Id like to avoid it if possible.
I also do not understand why files MPEG4 from the Alchemy are so much larger than the ones exported a second time as describ3ed above.
Im using the version 1.0.10 of Alchemy DVR as I have downloaded the 1.2 but was told in a previous email that I could not just reinsert the current pref files back into the new version and wish to avoid reentering all my TV shows again in v 1.2
Thanks very much for any help.

Are you sure your DVR is outputting mpeg4? Not mpeg2?

He is correct; the Alchemy card does not output to MPEG-2. Otherwise, things would be easy!

I don't have this card, but have you been to these pages? Maybe your answer is there.
