  1. I bought a divx player about a month ago and i burnt a divx movie to cd-r to play it. THe file plays however the player reads it as just one long continuous segment of video so when I stopped the movie and came back, I had to let it run to the point i stopped it before i could start watching it again.

In other words, I could not forward or search through the movie.

Is there anyway to cut a divx file into segments (but still have one file) so when i watch it on the divx player, i can just search through instead of waiting?

Or do i have to just cut the movie up into like 20 parts and burn them all in consecutive order on the cd-r?

    THANKS

It depends on the capabilities of the player.
I have 2 DVD players that support divx files...

On player 1, each press of the 'Next Chapter' or 'Previous Chapter' button while playing a DIVX file will jump forward or backwards 5 mins.

Player 2 doesn't do this but it has a 'GOTO' button that lets you select a time to jump to within the DIVX file (e.g I could jump 35mins and start playing from that point).

Your player may have one or more of these type of features for playing large files.

Otherwise, yes the only way is to physically cut the file into smaller bits.

This is an avi? I ask because I believe that some players support mp4, also possibly ogm. DivX is just a video codec and can be used in many different containers.

Probably the easiest way to split a file into pieces is to use say AVIMuxGUI or VDubMod and have it set to autosplit at a given filesize. With VBR video/audio the actual running time for say a 50MB chunk could vary a bit.

Yep, my player has the goto function, can also fast forward at I think 32X.
