  1. Hi, I know that there is not an "absolute" answer to my question 'cause many depends by the source movie...

But I would like to know all the same how do you usually set ffmpegX to encode yours Divx/Xvid...

I tried all the preset available and I found that the "Xvid Mencoder" was the one which gives better results with my movie (a DV file)... But I think also that these presets are only a "point to start", and playing with filters and options I could obtain something more...

(i'm looking for maximum quality: I don't care about encoding time and size of the final movie)

    thanks a lot! :P

  2. This depends on the final playback device (computer, DVD player, etc), and on your compression requirements (you need small files, or you don't care to have big files, etc).

  3. In my case the final playback device will be a standalone DVD player and I don't care to have a big files (quality it's my first need...) 'cause all the movie, that are very short (the longest is 23 min.), will be stored on DVD-R...

  4. As DV files are interlaced, the best quality is right now obtained by exporting the video with Quicktime player in Quicktime mpeg-2 format, and then authoring the resulting MPG file to DVD.

For some .avi's I had excellent results with the mencoder DivX options High Quality or Two-pass encoding.
