Can't crop an mpg2 file.

Hi - using 0.0.9q and I'm trying to crop a movie from m2v to mpeg via the FFmpeg engine. However, the crop function isn't working (I'm trying to make fullscreen movie onto a 16:9 letterbox movie).

The crop function in FFmpeg works fine when going to mpeg4, but doesn't have any effect when going to mpeg2. I'm outputting in a crop of 72px top and bottom, and them outputting a 16:9 mpg2 file. I've also tried "letterboxing" but this just adds 72px to the top and bottom of the frame, so I end op with a normal 4:3 image inside a very tall letterboxed frame.

Make sure you're not using "Decode with Quicktime", and that crop values are multiple of 16. Currently after letterboxing all movies are set to 4:3 ratio (this bug will be fixed in next version).

Sorry, but it's not working. I've got crop top and bottom set to 80px, but when I encode, the output image is still complete and uncropped. If I letterbox it in the FFmpeg Filters, it simply adds 80px deep bars top and bottom, so I have a 720*736 frame with the same 80px black bars top and bottom and the 576 high standard image in in between, whether I've cropped or not.

The crop function is just not doing anything to the image. I'm trying to make a 16:9 DVD of my"The Shining" DVD (I own the original so I'm not doing anything illegal, though I'm sure Stanley Kubrick is turning in his grave ;-] - I just want a 16:9 version).

Cropping and scaling worked fine on a mpeg4 .avi, just not to an mpeg2

I found that this is a bug in ffmpeg, happening when you resize the output to the same size as the input, and crop. If you try to resize to 720x480 it should work.

As a side note, to make a 16:9 version of a DVD you should not crop. You should enable "DVD 16:9" in the autosize popup which will enable the 16:9 aspect ratio flags.

I suppose that's why the 352x240 setting wouldn't crop. It was the same as the original. I ended up using the 352x480 setting. Now I understand :P

Well, I've tried making a DVD of 704*576 resolution, which I believe IS DVD compliant, and it's working! I can't make a PAL DVD at 720*480, can I.


Any chance this issue will be fixed in FFmpegX 1.0.0? The problem is now I can't make basic DVD discs as I have to use Sizzle to make it 16:9 now (which is fine, sizzle is great, but I'd rather just make a DVD I can stick straight in the machine and have it play) or could there be make a 16:9 setting for some of the other resolutions (352*576/480, 704*576/480 etc)

If you want 16:9 for the other resolutions, set autosize to "16:9" then enter manually the width and height in the fields.
